JCR 992 GT3 RS PROJECT - INSTALMENT 07 (THE TRANSFORMATION PROCESS)

You didn’t really think that it would stay stock, did you?

In last week’s blog we revealed the delivery spec of our brand new 992 GT3 RS, but that was definitely not the final specification for this car. Within an hour of the car being completed in PDI, it was onto a covered trailer with our good friends at Beeches Recovery and on its way to the magician that is Dom at WrapIT Vehicle Graphics.

Upon arrival to Dom, the car was decontaminated that day and ready for work to commence first thing in the morning. When we mentioned in the previous blog that the solid black colour we had originally specced would be a great base for further modifications, this is what we meant.

With Dom and his team carrying out a full colour change to Inozetek Navy Blue as well as some additional details, the gloss black fittings and hinges blend perfectly into our new colour, providing a neutral base with nothing standing out.

In the grand scheme of things, there wasn’t a huge amount of car to be wrapped in the Inozetek material; not compared to something like a Range Rover for example. That being said, unlike a Range Rover or larger car, all of the panels undergoing a colour change were extremely complex. With cutaways and returns on nearly every panel apart from the doors.

The guys did everything in their power to ensure a seamless finish and we’re pretty confident that unless you were told, you wouldn’t know this finish was from a wrap. Watching the team work together to ensure that this car was done on time was incredible to watch. The skill in ensuring that every area is covered with such a seamless finish is extremely impressive.

On top of the new colour, we also made the decision to wrap all of the factory carbon fibre components in satin PPF, something that we did on our GT4 RS. We can’t help but feel the carbon pops more in a satin finish than gloss.

The guys at WrapIT have done a fantastic job at making our concept come to a reality. One of the things which we weren’t particularly a fan of with the Weissach Package equipped cars is the design that Porsche went with on the bonnet. The mix of exposed carbon fibre and paint seemed, in our opinion, the wrong way around. So, on our car we’ve inverted the design, with the radiator exhaust ducts now in a carbon fibre finish and what would have usually been exposed carbon, now being body colour.

Making these changes at first glance gives the impression from the front of the car having a painted bonnet, an option we almost specced ourselves on the configurator; whilst at the same time, maintaining some visual carbon fibre on the bonnet and lining up with details over the roof with the central indentation. We think it works, one of many subtle touches across the car which just adds to that OEM+ aesthetic which we’re always striving for.

 We also opted to add some body colour touches to the factory wing end plates. This isn’t the final look for the end plates however, with our new development parts being install in a couple of weeks time ahead of testing at Spa Francorchamps

Whilst we’re on the wing ahead, the main plane was transformed to Navy blue with the DRS flap again covered in satin PPF to match the other exterior carbon. The factory Satin Silver Porsche script then added on top. There’s truly nothing worse than the look of PPF halo effect over graphics so this was an essential step.

As well as the colour change, we also got in touch with the team at Highgate House, the guys there were able to create OEM style graphics for our car. We chose to add satin silver small door decals as well as a satin silver rear bumper and rear wing decal. As with every JCR build since the Speedster, we also added the Porsche Heritage bonnet badge, as found from factory only on the 991.2 Speedster Heritage Package cars.

Now, for the most unique feature in this round of changes. With the help of the guys at Muffwash, we made the bold choice to change our wheel colour. With silver wheels well and truly back in trend, we fancied a bit of a change. We love the Inozetek Navy Blue so much that we made the decision to have a set of factory Porsche Weissach Package Magnesium Wheels painted in the exact same colour.

The guys at Muffwash did an incredible job in creating a custom paint colour to a vinyl material and the finish is second-to-none.

With this round of aesthetic changes now complete, it was time to protect the work that the guys had done and make sure this car is track ready. Applying XPEL PPF to the high impact zones of this car was a must. It wasn’t that simple though. With all of the complex curves and returns on the 992 GT3RS, the guys at WrapIT had to use a number of techniques in order to make sure that this car was protected properly.

The team made sure that all the crucial impact zones were protected and ready for some serious miles to be put on this car. 

We couldn’t make all of these changes and not add some JCR components to the car from the off. These custom covers highlight the exterior colour to perfection and make for a really classy look to the interior.

In addition to the seat covers, we also installed a set of our OEM Replacement Titanium Megaphone Tips in raw finish. These parts give a really clean look to the rear of the car, highlighting the silver details, whilst also providing that motorsport look, reducing weight and also accentuating the sound a little versus the restrictive factory tips.

We want to run the car in with a completely stock exhaust set-up, then it’s time to make some noise and power.
