JCR 992 GT3 RS PROJECT - INSTALMENT 04 (EXHAUST, TIPS & COATINGS)

INTRODUCTION

Something that a lot of our readers, as well as ourselves have been particularly looking forward to since we announced our 992 GT3 RS is what we will install for the exhaust solution. Well, the answer isn’t quite as straight forward as you may think.

With our calendar varying so much from drive-outs, static events and our favourite, track days; it can be quite tricky at times to have the appropriate exhaust configuration installed on the car. Throw into the mix the development of new products and it’s safe to say that the JCR 992 GT3 RS will be undergoing many exhaust changes in the coming months.

All the categories below will take us through the different options and applications that we plan to be running on the JCR GT3 RS, all within the space of 2 weeks. We’ll be covering a lot of miles on road and track prior to our first European road trip of the year.

Within the first two weeks of having the car we’ll be visiting Silverstone, Donington Park & Spa Francorchamps with noise limits varying from 102dB right up to a no noise limit day. Throw into the mix that we also have to run the car in, running the stock exhaust.

On top of the testing with the parts that we currently offer, we will also be testing our brand-new ’Super Silent Race Pipe’. This isn’t our usual route when it comes to exhaust modifications however with the way that track day noise restrictions are going, we thought it was time to develop an exhaust solution which will not only reduce weight and increase power but also be track safe for the majority of noise restricted circuits too. Not an easy task but we have our first development system ready to test at Spa later in the month.

We’ll be testing this first development system on a 991.1 GT3 RS and will be pairing it with both the OEM manifolds and JCR Inconel Race Manifolds and our Titanium Silenced Tips. We have a huge amount of data to gather and Spa Francorchamps circuits is the perfect place to run these tests.

The JCR Super Silent Race Pipe will be compatible with 997 / 991 / 992 Generation models so whatever your flavour, we’ll have you covered.

INCONEL RACE MANIFOLDS

Starting at the front and working backwards, the first talking point is our Inconel Race Manifolds. With a significant power and torque increase, our manifolds also provide an enormous change in exhaust volume and tone. This increase in sound level does present some challenges however, especially at noise restricted UK track days. We’ll be testing a number of our current configurations on the JCR 992 GT3 RS across the events we have in the diary throughout April.

For our own car, we'll initially be running our Inconel Race Manifolds paired with OEM Cat Replacement sections. This set up will allow us to swap and change between the OEM rear silencer as well as a variety of our Titanium Race Pipes. This modularity gives us the flexibility to adapt to different events and situations whilst also maintaining the power, torque and sound gains that the JCR Inconel Race Manifolds provide.

TITANIUM RACE PIPES

We’ll be swapping between the factory rear silencer and our Titanium Race Pipe options (Silenced, Non silenced & Valved) across the track events mentioned. On the 102dB day we’ll be running our Silenced Race Pipe and Silenced tips and on the derestricted day it’ll be straight on with our Non Silenced Race Pipe and Megaphone Tips.

Being able to easily swap between JCR and OEM manifolds and rear options will give us the opportunity to get plenty of lap time, 100-200 kmh, and decibel data whilst on track across the four days.

TITANIUM EXHAUST TIPS

The final exhaust component we will have installed on our 992 GT3RS will be a set of our Titanium Megaphone Tips. This probably won’t come as a surprise to most of you however, as with everything at JCR, our products are developed with motorsports and performance in mind, and what looks more motorsport than a set of perfectly proportioned Titanium Megaphone Tips.

We’ll also be completing further testing on a brand new coating that removes the heat colouring that usually takes place on Titanium components when exposed to multiple high heat cycles. This special coating will maintain the original colour of the titanium throughout the lifecycle of the parts.

We’ve already ran tips with the coating applied on the JCR GT4 RS with brilliant results however the GT3 RS will see higher exhaust temps at the tips so further testing is required. We’re super excited to share the results.

We can’t wait to get under way testing with the car, not too long now!

Tune in next week for a first look at the JCR 992 GT3 RS!
